The Sûreté du Québec would like to issue a reminder to prevent text message fraud.

The Sûreté du Québec has been notified by a number of citizens in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau MRC that they have received a text message stating that they were speeding in a school zone where fines are doubled. The message indicates that they must immediately pay the fine by clicking on a link.

We wish to reiterate that this is not how the Sûreté du Québec handles such situations. Please do not click on the link and contact the police.

Reporting is taking action!

The Sûreté du Québec and its partners invite the public to report any fraudulent acts to their local police. Fraud is a criminal act. Whether committed on the Internet, by telephone, by text message, by e-mail or in person, it must be reported as soon as possible to the police and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501.

For more information, we invite the public to visit the website, X feed and Facebook page of the Sûreté du Québec and its partners.
