Troubled history of Québec Famine Memorial reported in US media

Irish Studies Newsletter, Concordia, August 13, 2021.

The New York-based electronic newsletter, Irish Central, has written an article on the complicated history of an Irish Famine Memorial in the Gatineau Hills, just north of the Ottawa National Capital Region.

The article highlights the role of Catholine Butler in creating a memorial to her Famine-era ancestors, and who also worked with her daughter, Maura De Freitas, to establish The Celtic Connection which served western Canada and the U.S. Pacific Northwest for almost thirty years.

You can read the article in Irish Central.

Maura De Freitas, who is writing a memoir dealing with her Irish ancestors, has also provided additional information on this Famine Memorial.
